Toy and Hobby Web Sites Benchmarked in New Internet Study

Toy and Hobby Web Sites Benchmarked in New Internet Study

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 31, 2006

According to the Internet Standards Assessment Report (ISAR) released by the Web Marketing Association, toy & hobby Web sites have been above average compared to the ISAR index except for a slight underperformance in 2003. Toy & hobby Web sites have traditionally been strong in design and use of technology, but have been significantly below average for interactivity. The ISAR study provides industry benchmarks for Web site development and is based on data collected from 9,748 Web site evaluations in more than 80 industries over the past decade. A copy of the full report can be downloaded at http://www.webaward.org/isar_report.asp.

“Toy and hobby Web sites bring out the kid in all of us,” said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. “They tend to be effective users of Flash to build an environment for promoting the newest toys and favorite classics. Hobbyists also count on Web sites for news and information relating to their interests. These are typically Web sites built and maintained by individuals with a passion for the area on interest for which they are designed.”

Since 1997, the Web Marketing Association has been conducting its annual WebAward Competition for Web site development. The Internet Standards Assessment Report is the results of nearly a decade of independent evaluations of Web site development based on seven categories: design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.

Here are some of the past WebAwards Best Toy and Hobby Web site winners.

2005 A Toy Store of Toy Stores – http://etoys.com/

2004 Chevron Cars – http://www.chevroncars.com/

2003 Kodak LS420 Sitelet – http://www.webaward.org/winner.asp?eid=764

2002 – LEGO BIONICLE (Story Site) – http://www.bionicle.com/

A complete list of past winners can be found at http://www.webaward.org/winners_detail.asp?yr=all&award_level=best&category=Toy%20&%20Hobby

Toy and hobby manufactures and enthusiasts wishing to have their Web sites evaluated against the ISAR Index and be considered for a WebAward, which can help boost a Web site’s credibility and marketing efforts, can nominate their site at http://www.webawards2006.org.

“Of course, as in every industry, there are toy and hobby Web sites that stand out and others that don’t make the grade,” concluded Rice. “Our goal has always been to be more than just a popularity or beauty pageant that rewards brand names and good design. Instead, this ISAR study is designed to return some value to every entrant with input as to what Internet professionals should strive for in their Web site development efforts in an objective, empirical and constructive way.”

About the WebAwards

The 10th annual international WebAwards competition sets the standard of excellence in 96 industry categories by evaluating Web sites and defining benchmarks based on the seven essential criteria of successful Web site development. The goal of the Web Marketing Association, sponsor of the WebAwards, is to provide a forum to recognize the people and organizations responsible for developing some of the most effective Web sites on the Internet today. Entrants benefit from a Web site assessment by a professional judging panel and the marketing opportunities presented to an award-winning Web site. For more information, visit http://www.webawards2006.org.

Note to Editors: If you would like to receive a chart comparing two or more of the industries within the 2006 ISAR Study, please contact William Rice.

RC-Hobbies High Hopes for Next Quarter

RC-Hobbies High Hopes for Next Quarter

Littleton, CO (PRWEB) September 3, 2006

RC-Hobbies is a growing franchise based in Denver, Colorado. The original store was only around for about two years before it started to franchise. This franchise is similar the Hobby Town USA but it focuses more on Radio controlled rather than plastic models and trains.

Along with the growing stores, the website has been booming as well. The website, http://www.rc-hobbies.com, has been up and running for about one year and has done very well even though it is not that big.

RC-Hobbies.com is happy to announce that it is growing and hopes to be a major competitor with Tower Hobbies (one of the largest online hobby stores) in the near future.

We have taken on a much larger inventory and have increased the number of products sold on the website as well. This along with the unrivaled customer service has made RC-Hobbies a number one pick among hobbies today.

New Website Releases Locations of Hobby Shops Around the United States

New Website Releases Locations of Hobby Shops Around the United States

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 23, 2008

For those interested in interesting hobbies, then the website HobbyShopLocations.com is a great resource to find the nearest hobby shops in one’s area. According to the Webmaster of HobbyShopLocations.com, he intended to give those with a hobby a place to research shops and other related items. As it is true that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, hobbies are increasingly becoming popular as more and more people are getting into things and picking up random hobbies.

The website itself is very easy to navigate around. The home page of HobbyShopLocations.com includes the listing of the 50 states and the District of Columbia; every state has listed under its name the major cities and one simply has to click on a city to find the listings for such a place. For example, if one lived in Mobile, Alabama, one would simply point her browser to Hobby Shop Locations and simply click on the city of Mobile under Alabama. Once clicked the user is redirected to a different page on the site where the listings are located. Unfortunately only 2 shops exist in Mobile that caters to the hobby crowd. These stores include the Borderland Relics and Loop Coins and Pawn. So, as one can see, there are a multitude of differences around the hobby world. For example, some people collect stamps, while others collect sports memorabilia, and yet others just watch television all day and call themselves ‘hobbyists’

The site HobbyShopLocations.com is a great site for those interested in starting a new hobby. The administrator from the site told me that one must really be committed when they start a hobby. Make sure that the hobby will both keep you happy and your wallet happy. Try to find a hobby that interests you and will be easier on your mind and wallet. Although my hobbies now include reading and writing articles, I feel that this too is a hobby. For after all, hobbies are activities that people love to do.

For those who already have one and are looking for a close (in proximity) store, then look no further than HobbyShopLocations.com. With friendly support and an easy to use ‘Hobby Shop Location’ link, one simply has to log on to experience the ease.

Air Land Sea Hobbies Take Three Decades of Experience Online

Air Land Sea Hobbies Take Three Decades of Experience Online

Cooperstown, NY (PRWEB) August 30, 2008

For RC enthusiasts, Kenneth Hall and Donna Nilsen-Hall, it was really a matter of convenience. “The closest hobby shops we have in our neighborhood are 42 and 53 miles from where we live,” explained Kenneth Hall. “We thought that there must be others in this situation, so we thought opening an online store would be a way to help people who are in the radio control hobby, but live in places where hobby stores aren’t easily accessible.”

The couple started http://www.AirLandSeaHobbies.com in February 2008, and though the business itself is new, the couple isn’t green when it comes to RC matters. “We’re excited about the opportunity to get new and exciting products in the hands of other modelers,” said Hall. “With 30 years in the hobby – 27 of which were as an instructor – we’re seeing that this is a great way of helping people.”

As a way to keep an open stream of dialogue with their customers, the couple also started a blog with http://www.AirLandSeaHobbiesInfo.com. “Discussions in hobby shops were very important to modelers,” Hall said. “I want our blog to be the discussion in the hobby shop. We’ll have reviews of existing products, previews of new products; we’ll have tips in building and maintenance. It will be a way for us to communicate with our customers.”

In addition to being a customer-friendly site, Air Land Sea Hobbies also boasts a wide selection of RC airplanes – all of which come at affordable prices. “We picked electric RC airplanes because it’s one of the fastest growing segments of the hobby,” began Hall. Yet he sees that there is room for expansion into other aspects of the radio control venue.

“We’re going to add electric helicopters, boats, cars and even electric-ducted fan models of jet aircrafts of all scales,” he continued.

The Halls are a small segment of Americans who’ve managed to take their hobbies and build their lives around them, all the while leaving an indelible mark on the community at large. “We belong to four different RC airplane clubs in the area and they all hold these Fun Flies, which raise money for charities,” said Hall. “We raised over $ 1280 for Hospice in July and last August, we contributed nearly $ 900 to the Humane Society.”

Kenneth Hall and Donna Nilsen-Hall prove that your hobbies don’t have to be left with your childhood and, in their case, hobbies can help make a difference in the lives of others.
