Salt Lake Community College Softball & Baseball Teams Ranked #1 & #2 Nationally

Salt Lake Community College Softball & Baseball Teams Ranked #1 & #2 Nationally

SLCC Softball

Salt Lake City, Ut (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

Salt Lake Community College has two intercollegiate sports teams that play in the spring—softball and baseball. Both teams are in the top-2 in the country.

“It is just so unusual to have two teams playing at the same time both ranked in the top-2 in the country,” said Salt Lake Community College Vice President of Institutional Advancement Tim Sheehan. “Both teams have unbelievable records and the success they’ve had this year speaks to the quality of the programs and the College Athletic department”.

The Bruin softball team is the top-ranked squad in the nation—and has already qualified for the NJCAA national tournament—that will be held in St. George, UT on May 17th -19th—by winning the Region 18 title. The team’s record is now 55-7 overall this season.

The First-ranked Bruins had three players named to the Region 18 All-Tournament team: Tanisha Anderson, Maddy Woodard and Savanah Webster; MaCauley Flint was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The SLCC Baseball also won the Region 18 tournament and is looking to join the softball team at nationals. The team won a dramatic, 6-5 comeback victory against Western Nevada in the Region tournament final—SLCC was down three heading into the ninth inning before scoring four runs to win in its last at-bat. SLCC’s Dominique Taylor was named tournament MVP.

As a result of its region win, SLCC baseball has earned the opportunity to host a four team District Playoff May 17-19 at Cate Field. The winner of the playoff will head to National Junior College Athletic Association championship in Grand Junction, Colorado.

While the SLCC softball team has been ranked first in the country in several seasons, the baseball team earned its first-ever top ranking last year. Neither team has won the NJCAA Tournament, though, and both are looking to change that this year.

Currently ranked number 2 in the country—with a record of 43-8 on the season—SLCC’s next step toward qualifying for the national tournament comes in its first District playoff game against Lamar Community College on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Cate Field. The other two teams in the double elimination district playoff—Central Arizona Community College and Western Nevada College—will face each other in a night game on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

All games will be available via live-streaming on SLCCTV and SLCC Radio. Both feeds are available at this link: http://rwdacad01.slcc.edu/video//slcctv/slcctv-live.html.

Moon Guidebook Author Offers Top Hidden Gems in the Hudson River Valley

Moon Guidebook Author Offers Top Hidden Gems in the Hudson River Valley

Moon Hudson River Valley by Nikki Goth Itoi

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

New York City may be the most popular travel destination in the US, but just north of the Big Apple lay the rustic charms of the Hudson River Valley. The area is where New Yorkers go for a weekend getaway, and a place tourists tend to overlook. To help travelers explore the area, Nikki Goth Itoi—seasoned traveler and author of Moon Hudson River Valley—offers her suggestions for the top hidden gems to visit when exploring the Hudson River Valley. The author’s favorites include:

Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture: Although not exactly hidden, this 80-acre center adjoining the Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Westchester County remains in many ways a well-kept secret. Visitors can pick up fresh veggies at the farmers market, attend a gardening lecture, enroll children in summer camps, and learn what it takes to operate a sustainable farm.

Croton Gorge County Park: On a summer day, park at the base of the New Croton Dam and cool off in the mist from the falls. This is a great place to pick up the Old Croton Aqueduct trail for a jog or mountain bike ride.

Go-Go Pops: Stop in for a handmade icy treat nestled among the antique shops on Cold Spring’s Main Street.

Bellvale Farms Creamery: Locals enjoy 50 flavors of homemade ice cream and valley views from this hilltop stand located between Warwick and Greenwood Lake.

Walkway over the Hudson: More than a mile long, this new state historic park connects the city of Poughkeepsie with the town of Highland in Ulster County on the other side of the river. A converted railroad bridge, it’s now the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. Enjoy the best river views the region has to offer.

Wild Hive Café: Begin or end a day on the Dutchess County Wine Trail at this wholesome bakery/café in Clinton Corners. Tasty breads are made from organic grains that are grown and milled nearby.

The Rhinecliff: Travelers can stop in for dinner or drinks, or stay the night in a beautifully restored riverside mansion that was built in 1854.

Saugerties Lighthouse: Hike a riverside trail to a historic lighthouse. If visitors plan ahead, they can even stay overnight in a rustic and secluded bed-and-breakfast setting.

New York Zipline Adventure Tours at Hunter Mountain: Skiers know Hunter Mountain for its slopes, but in summer, hidden in the treetops of this Catskill resort is a 4.6-mile zipline that holds distinction as the longest and highest course in North America.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome: For good old-fashioned family fun, get tickets to watch the antique planes put on a daring show in this outdoor aviation museum near the Village of Rhinebeck.

The Book Cove: Book lovers can browse the vast collection of local titles at this independent bookstore in the center of Pawling.

Harney and Sons Tea Shop: Try a cup of the daily brew after a stroll on the Millerton rail trail or between visits to the local antique shops.

Marital Debts and Dirty Tricks: Avoiding Common Pitfalls of Divorce

Marital Debts and Dirty Tricks: Avoiding Common Pitfalls of Divorce

Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

Sneaky spouses are pulling more tricks than ever before, according to Charlotte divorce lawyer Erin Clarey. In a recent Divorce Talk Radio podcast, host Stephanie Lockwood interviewed Clarey to get the scoop on what spouses are doing today that they haven’t done in the past, like racking up credit card debt, weaseling out of verbal agreements and leaving the other party out in the cold – literally. Lockwood and Clarey discussed these common issues in “Can Marital Debts Occur Post-Marriage?”

Lockwood and Clarey aired the podcast to discuss cases in which spouses disagree on what constitutes marital debt, as well, and Clarey encourages people to consult with an attorney at the first indication of impending divorce.

“Stay focused, talk to your lawyer, and don’t get swindled,” says Clarey. “Don’t let your emotions take over: guilt, anger, or anything like that.” This is especially important for people who aren’t sure what their rights are.

When a couple incurs a debt together, but the due date occurs after separation, for example, it should be considered a marital debt. However, a smooth-talking spouse can pull a fast one and trick the other party into tackling the debt alone.

“Those are the kinds of things you can get tricked into agreeing to,” says Clarey.

Clarey also warns against relying on verbal agreements with your spouse, citing parental responsibilities as one example. Having written agreements can help parents from falling prey to each other’s whims; it’s much more difficult to renege on a deal when it’s in writing. Clarey advises people to start a paper trail from day one.

Divorce Talk Radio runs a weekly podcast to clarify common (and sometimes not-so-common) divorce issues to make divorce easier on all parties. The show has recently hosted Charlotte divorce lawyer Jennifer Nancarrow (“March Means Divorce,” March 28) and Charlotte divorce lawyer David Self (“Alimony in Abundance,” March 21).

About Rosen Law Firm

Rosen Law Firm operates Divorce Talk Radio to assist couples transition through divorce as easily as possible. The firm has offices in Raleigh, Charlotte and Chapel Hill and provides services including custody disputes, property distribution, alimony, domestic violence relief and separation agreement.

Memoir Reveals One Man?s Personal Struggle to Find Inner Peace

Memoir Reveals One Man’s Personal Struggle to Find Inner Peace

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (PRWEB) April 25, 2012

From the author that brought readers The Tragedy of Darkness, a magnificent novel of love and tragedy, comes another memorable read. This time, Ted Bagley lets them glimpse My Personal War Within: “A Struggle to Find Inner Peace”.

My Personal War Within is a novel primarily set in Birmingham, Alabama, during the 50s and 60s and the turbulent days of the Jim Crow Laws, the Ku Klux Klan, and the John Birch Society. These were difficult times for those growing up black in a country struggling to give identity to a race that played such an important part of its infrastructural growth. The author carries the readers on a ride through his life from the sometimes raciest streets of southern cities like Birmingham to corporate America where he is today. He very skillfully shows how family values, relationships, the military, and education were the tool kits to his success.

“The Author has created a warm and heartfelt depiction of his life from boyhood through manhood, with memorable quotes worth reading. He takes time to explain to the readers just how important the early foundation and family values are to his eventual career success.”—Sandi Witherspoon, Attorney at Law/EEOC

“Brilliant recounting of the author’s unpredictable climb up America’s corporate ladder! However, Bagley gives us more than a run-of-the-mill autobiography; rather, he shows us how powerful a tool that a belief in your own self-worth can be in overcoming life’s obstacles.”—Rosemarie Rhodes, Judge- EEO Atlanta

My Personal War Within will be featured at the Year NameofExhibit Book Exhibit in City, State, on Month Day, 20XX (Year).

Author Pete Delohery Lets Readers into the Boxing World

Author Pete Delohery Lets Readers into the Boxing World

Marietta, GA (PRWEB) April 28, 2012

A particular blog in the internet states that, “Boxing is about more than just how many opponents you can knock out. It’s not a way of life, but a way you view your life and the world around you.” But how much do people understand about this perception? Do they have a concrete grasp on how boxers live their life and those close to them? Author Pete Delohery provides a glimpse into the world of boxing and what life in the ring is like in his new book, Lamb to the Slaughter, a novel about love and courage, sin and redemption.

“Iron Mike” McGann, 32 years old, is facing the twilight of his prizefighting career. Desperate for his future, he has refused to honor his promise to his wife to quit the ring and start a family. In despair, his wife, Madge, is leaving him.

Rufus “Hurricane” Hilliard, Mike’s next opponent, is the most menacing presence in prizefighting. He has won all 22 of his fights by knockout and is said to be a former enforcer for something called The Black Mafia. But behind Rufus Hilliard’s menacing ring presence lives a man nobody knows, a complex man who despises his own image. Unexpectedly left alone before his bout with McGann, Rufus “Hurricane” Hilliard is forced to confront the past that haunts him and the future he dreads.

Charles “Charliehorse” O’Connell, Rufus’s cornerman, has been terrorized by a mob kingpin to sabotage him. O’Connell, who is an alcoholic and a compulsive gambler, blames himself for the ring deaths of two prizefighters. Trapped in a moral crisis, Charles “Charliehorse” O’Connell must finally confront his “Cardinal Sin.”

Rufus “Hurricane” Hilliard vs. “Iron Mike” McGann, just another fight shown on The Continuous Sports Network, but by the time it is over the lives of these and many others will be forever different. Readers will witness more thrills and excitement as the surprising end unfolds in Lamb to the Slaughter.

Goody Awards Launches Autism Acceptance Month Cause Marketing Campaign

Goody Awards Launches Autism Acceptance Month Cause Marketing Campaign

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) April 02, 2012

In support of Autism Acceptance Month in April, Goody Awards (http://goodyawards.com) launches a cause marketing campaign today (Autism Acceptance Day) to support changing the conversation about Autism to acceptance and appreciation versus negative tones often associated with Autism Awareness Month. In 2002, the estimate was 1 in 150 American children had some form of autism, and with the new CDC estimate of 1 in 88 children, this 78% increase makes it’s even more important to increase our understanding. To recognize the many social good contributions of an individual who is changing this conversation, Goody Awards will be presenting a 17-yr-old Award-Winning Visual Effects Animator, Dani Bowman, who is autistic with a Golden Goody (top award like getting an Oscar in Social Good) in April.

Dani Bowman started her own animation company at only 11 years old, Powerlight Studios, and has since illustrated two anti-bullying books, writes and voice acts 9 different cartoon series, illustrated and did the voiceover for the upcoming Rethinking Autism PSA and is currently working on a film. Dani aspires to be the Temple Grandin of her generation, and recently did red carpet interviews at the Los Angeles Animation Film Festival with animators such as Academy Award Nominee Bill Plympton http://www.powerlight-studios.com/OneOnOne. Dani Bowman commented, “I am honored to be the recipient of the Golden Goody Award. As a person with autism, I think it’s important to stand up against bullying for those in the autism community, spread positive awareness of autism and inspire others with autism to follow their own dreams.” Dani’s uncle and guardian Patrick Eidemiller added, “It is wonderful that Dani has been selected for the Golden Goody Award acknowledging her work in the autism community and knowing that she is making a difference in the lives of others.” In support of Autism Acceptance Month, Dani just posted this iReport message on CNN http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-769312

This Goody Awards cause marketing campaign will include a sweepstakes on Facebook http://on.fb.me/H79U6R and Twitter http://bit.ly/H5FzdQ where individuals can make a difference by entering to win an iPad (random drawing) plus give an iPad to an autistic child. Dani Bowman will select the autistic child who receives the iPad based on a needs survey that she is currently doing with Extra Special Kids on Facebook. The iPad, like other computers, is an effective communications tool for many on the autism spectrum. The touch screen and layout make the iPad more accessible for children with coordination or learning difficulties; and these children may find sliding and tapping easier than either typing or writing. Moreover, the iPad can be easily carried, and thus is helpful for calming and focusing children on the go.
